a night in sao paulo
| Notas
Refering the song "A Night in Tunisia" by Dizzy Gillespie, an adaptive algorithm, developed by Tuti Fornari using Pure Data language, was used to create a soundscape of the city of Sao Paulo. This code has as main characteristic that programming and sounds were dynamically created or modified by the code itself in a process of autonomous composition. From a mapping of 600 nightclubs in the city, including bars, nightclubs, concert halls and so on, a survey of their cartographic coordinates were made. This numerical universe fed the algorithm which, through combinations of them and self-generated feedbacks, created, in an autonomous and randomic way, sound objects with different lenghts, tones and locations in the sound space. The interaction between temporal and spatial ambience sets a sound journey through immersive space which, at the same time provides an oniric trip, acts as a new language mapping, creating, in another language, the urban landscape of the metropolis. a night in são paulo soundscape was part of the exhibitions SoundLAB 7 – NewMediaFest’2010 (Köln, Germany) and Festival Internacional da Linguagem Eletrônica (FILE 2010 - São Paulo, Brazil). It was released just for download and purchase on Bandcamp.
